Iwate Medical University, Private medical university in Morioka, Japan.
Iwate Medical University is a private institution in Morioka with three schools dedicated to Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy. The university operates an affiliated teaching hospital that provides primary, secondary, and tertiary care to patients throughout Iwate Prefecture.
The school began in 1901 as a private medical academy, closed temporarily in 1912, and reopened in 1928 as Iwate Medical College. It gained university status in 1947.
Students at Iwate Medical University study entirely in Japanese, participating in extensive clinical training within the university's teaching hospital system.
The campus spreads across several blocks in central Morioka with clear signage for visitors. The main entrance is easy to locate, and the teaching hospital area is accessible on foot from surrounding neighborhoods.
A new campus is being developed in Yahaba, about 10 kilometers from the original site. This project will eventually consolidate all university departments at a modern facility away from the city center.
