Kōmyōike Station, railway station in Sakai, Osaka prefecture, Japan
Kōmyōike Station is a railway stop in Minami-ku, Sakai, with a single elevated island platform serving trains in both directions. The station building beneath the platform has a simple layout that connects easily to nearby bus terminals.
The station opened in 1977 at the southern edge of Semboku New Town. Starting in April 2025, it will become part of Nankai Electric Railway after the Semboku Rapid Railway buyout, bringing possible new services and connections.
The station takes its name from Kōmyōike Pond, an artificial lake built in 1936 nearby. Visitors can still see the quiet water and a small monument that honors the Korean workers who helped build it, connecting the area to its shared history.
The station is easy to reach with elevators, ramps, and stairs, and offers wheelchair-accessible restrooms including special facilities for people with stomas. Station staff are available to help with schedule information and directions.
Station staff provide Braille guides for visually impaired visitors, showing careful attention to accessible service. This thoughtful design makes it a welcoming place for all travelers.
