Mount Nabewari, Mountain peak in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.
Mount Nabewari is a mountain in the Tanzawa range of Kanagawa Prefecture, accessible from the towns of Hadano, Matsuda, and Yamakita. A small lodge sits at the summit and serves hikers who reach the top.
The lodge at the top opened in 1976 and has been running ever since without a break. Over time it became one of the most consistent stopping points in the Tanzawa area.
The summit lodge is known for serving nabeyaki udon, a hot noodle soup cooked and served in a single clay pot. Many hikers plan their route so they arrive at the top around lunchtime to sit down and eat before heading back.
Most trails to the summit take a few hours on foot and require a reasonable level of fitness. Sections of the path can become wet and slippery, especially in the forested parts and after rainfall.
The person who runs the lodge, a man in his seventies, carries all supplies including water and food ingredients up to the summit on foot five days a week. Regular visitors to the area know him personally and often look forward to seeing him as much as reaching the top.
