Mt. Kibigara

Mt. Kibigara rises in the Tanzawa Mountains and is covered by dense forests that feature several hiking trails leading to the summit. The mountain offers different routes depending on the starting point, with each path passing through varied woodland landscapes.

The mountain is part of the Tanzawa-Oyama Quasi-National Park, established in 1965 to protect the natural resources of the mountain range. This designation shaped the forest landscape that hikers encounter on the mountain today.

Japanese hikers maintain detailed records of their Mount Kibigara ascents in climbing logs, contributing to a collective knowledge base for the mountaineering community.

Access to the mountain is by infrequent buses to the hiking trailheads, with travel times varying depending on your chosen starting point. Visitors should arrive early and bring plenty of water, as facilities along the way are limited.

An emergency shelter sits just below the summit and serves as a critical stop for hikers on challenging routes through the northern Tanzawa area. This facility is valued by experienced mountaineers undertaking multi-day journeys through the range.
