Hayato Great Falls, Dual-tiered waterfall in Tanzawa-Oyama Quasi-National Park, Japan

Hayato Great Falls features two successive cascades that drop a combined 50 meters, with a substantial rock formation separating the upper section. The water plunges roughly 40 meters first, then a second drop of around 10 meters continues into the pool below.

Japan's Ministry of Environment officially recognized this waterfall in 1990 by designating it as number 30 on the nation's Top 100 Waterfalls list. This designation helped establish it as an important natural landmark within the region.

The waterfall is known locally as Hayato-Otaki and holds significance as a natural landmark within Kanagawa Prefecture. Visitors come here to experience the remote mountain environment and its geological power.

Reaching the falls requires approximately two hours of hiking on mountain trails from the nearest road, so sturdy footwear and long clothing to protect against the elements are essential. The path can become slippery in wet conditions, so extra caution is needed.

From the viewpoint at the base, the lower cascade is clearly visible, but the upper section is partially obscured by the large rock wall dividing the two drops. This unique angle makes each perspective of the site visually distinct.
