Maruko Bridge, Road bridge in Ota, Japan.
Maruko Bridge is a road crossing over the Tama River that joins Ota Ward in Tokyo with Nakahara Ward in Kawasaki. It stretches roughly 406 meters and includes multiple traffic lanes along with wide walkways for pedestrians and cyclists on each side.
The original structure was completed in 1934, replacing an older ferry service that had connected the two riverbanks. The construction was a joint project between Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefectures.
The bridge serves as a vital crossing point between Tokyo and Kawasaki, used daily by residents and travelers moving between the two cities. Its presence marks the connection between two distinct urban areas on opposite sides of the river.
The bridge is easy to cross on foot or by bicycle, with clearly marked paths on both sides. Walking across offers a good sense of how the two areas connect and provides river views along the way.
In 2002, a seal nicknamed Tama-chan appeared near the northern end and drew widespread public attention. This event brought visitors to the location and made it a temporary focal point for locals and travelers alike.
