観蔵院, Buddhist temple in Ota, Japan
Kanzoin is a Buddhist temple in Ota that houses a seated Yakushi Buddha statue within its main hall. The structure displays classical Japanese architectural features that have been maintained across generations.
The temple was founded before 1332 as a training center for esoteric Buddhist practices. It later shifted its religious affiliation to the Jodo sect of Buddhism.
The temple serves as the 57th station on the Tamagawa 88 Temple Pilgrimage route and the 29th stop along the Tokai 33 Kannon Pilgrimage. These pilgrimage routes bring visitors who follow these traditional spiritual journeys through the region.
The temple maintains a consultation hall where visitors can speak with resident monks about Buddhist ceremonies, memorial services, and grave-related matters. The site sits at the base of a hill within a residential neighborhood and is easily accessible.
The Yakushi Buddha statue is recognized as a tangible cultural property by Ota Ward and holds art historical significance. Many visitors overlook this designation, yet it demonstrates that the temple receives regional protection status.
