利根海鷗大橋, Cable-stayed bridge in Choshi, Japan.
The Tonegawa Kamome Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge that spans across the Tone River, connecting Choshi city with Katori village. The structure features tall towers designed to allow large vessels to pass underneath while carrying road traffic above.
Construction began in 2005 and finished in 2010, addressing a long-standing transportation gap between the two riverbanks. The project helped improve connectivity for the surrounding communities in the region.
The bridge has become a place where photographers return repeatedly to capture how light and seasons change the way it looks. People gather here to watch the river and surrounding landscape throughout the year.
Pedestrians and cyclists have separate lanes that keep them safe from vehicle traffic. Walking across takes time, so allow yourself to enjoy the views and the breeze from the river along the way.
The bridge sits high enough that ocean-going vessels and large cargo ships can pass freely beneath it. This dual function of connecting land transportation while preserving river shipping makes its design solution particularly clever.
