南港大橋, Girder bridge in Suminoe-ku, Japan.

Nanko Bridge is a girder bridge in Suminoe-ku that crosses the Nanko waterway and connects different parts of the district. The structure carries both road traffic and the New Tram Port Town Line on a single unified design.

The bridge was built between 1969 and 1974 and had to overcome challenges posed by soft reclaimed land beneath it. The engineering solutions developed for these difficult foundation conditions were notable achievements of that era.

The bridge structure incorporates both road traffic lanes and railway tracks, representing Japanese engineering methods for integrated transportation systems.

The bridge is well designed for vehicle traffic with separate lanes for cars and public transport clearly marked on its surface. Visitors can best view and experience the structure from nearby paths or from passing transport routes.

The bridge received the Tanaka Award from the Japan Society of Civil Engineers for its innovative soft ground construction techniques. This recognition reflected its status as a model project for similar work across Japan at that time.
