Universal Studios Japan, Theme park in Sakurajima, Japan
Universal Studios Japan is a theme park in Sakurajima spanning 54 hectares and divided into ten themed zones, including Hollywood, New York, San Francisco, and Super Nintendo World. The sections lead visitors through recreated street sets where attractions are based on film franchises and interactive technology.
The park opened on March 31, 2001, becoming the first Universal Studios facility outside the United States. New sections have been added over the years, including the Wizarding World area in 2014 and Super Nintendo World in 2021.
Japanese pop culture shapes large sections of the park, where manga, anime, and video game characters come to life through themed zones. Seasonal celebrations draw local families who return regularly to enjoy familiar franchises and experience new collaborations with entertainment companies.
Visitors reach the park from Universal City Station on the JR Yumesaki Line with a five-minute walk to the entrance. Expect longer queues on weekends and holidays, especially at the most popular attractions.
In Super Nintendo World, visitors activate game elements through wristbands that interact with sensors hidden in recreated environments. The area offers a physical representation of digital worlds that normally exist only on screens.
