Geological Museum, Geological museum in Higashi, Tsukuba, Japan.
The Geological Museum is a research and exhibition center in Higashi that displays about 2,000 objects from a large collection of rocks, minerals, and fossils. The exhibition rooms are organized by themes such as Earth history, minerals, and life forms, including a three-dimensional model of Mount Fuji.
The museum was founded in 1980 to make research results from the Geological Survey of Japan available to the public. The collection itself extends much further back, containing objects gathered by scientists since 1882.
The collections tell the story of how our planet developed over millions of years through rocks and fossils that scientists have gathered. Visitors experience how these specimens reveal the ongoing changes in life and geology that shaped the world we see today.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and admission is free for all visitors. You can explore the exhibitions at your own pace, and informational materials are available throughout the museum to help you learn more about the objects.
The museum provides QR codes at many exhibits that allow visitors to access additional information about each object using their smartphones. This makes the visit interactive and lets everyone explore details at their own pace.
