Tsuchiura City Museum

The Tsuchiura City Museum presents exhibits and artifacts within a modern structure located in the former castle grounds of Tsuchiura Castle.

The museum, established in 1988, stands on the land of the former Tsuchiura Castle, which served as a strategic stronghold during the Edo period.

Through permanent exhibitions and rotating displays, the museum documents the development of Tsuchiura from an Edo Period castle town to a modern city.

The museum provides guided tours in Japanese, educational programs for students, and special exhibitions focusing on regional history and traditions.

Visitors can explore the preserved Taiko Yagura gate from 1656, the last remaining original turret gate in the entire Kanto region.
