Kijō Park

Kijō Park is an urban park featuring ancient castle ruins with visible foundations, stone walls, and moats that form a natural boundary encircling the grounds. Paved paths guide visitors through the site while information panels explain the historical context of what remains.

The site preserves remnants of Tsuchiura Castle from the Edo period, when large-scale fortress construction flourished in Japan. Surviving structural elements reveal the engineering methods used in Japanese fortification design during that era.

During spring, the site becomes a center for cherry blossom celebrations where people gather to view the pink flowers and join seasonal festivals. The trees shape how visitors experience this place throughout that period of the year.

The original castle moats remain intact, creating water features that encircle the site and provide habitats for aquatic wildlife. These moats stand out as one of the best-preserved features of the former fortress complex.
