Osaka Gas Building, Art Deco office building in Chuo-ku, Japan

The Osaka Gas Building is an eight-story office structure made of limestone and granite along Midosuji Boulevard, with black granite from Fukushima Prefecture on its lower floors. Its interior features high-quality materials including German-made stainless steel window frames and marble from Italy and Okinawa.

Designed by architects Takeo Yasui and Shoichi Sano in 1933, it reflects the prosperity of that era. It survived Osaka's air raids in 1945 thanks to fire shutters that protected it from damage, demonstrating its solid construction.

The building served as a gathering place for businesspeople and visitors who frequented the eighth-floor restaurant since opening. It shaped the character of Midosuji Boulevard and remains integral to how people experience this district.

Located five minutes from Yodoyabashi Station, it is easy to reach on foot. The building's exterior is fully visible from street level, allowing visitors to walk around and appreciate its architectural details.

The rooftop garden contains an unexpected green space with around 35 plant species thriving above the commercial district. Few visitors discover this hidden retreat while exploring the building's exterior.
