UCCJ Naniwa Church, Protestant church in Kōraibashi, Japan.
UCCJ Naniwa Church is a three-story Protestant building in Kōraibashi with Gothic pointed windows filled with yellow and green stained glass. This colored glass creates a warm, shifting light inside the prayer hall.
The congregation began in 1877 with eleven believers under the name Naniwa Kokai, while the present building was completed in 1930. This construction was carried out by Takenaka Corporation, a leading Japanese construction company of that era.
The church takes its name from the historic Naniwa district and reflects the story of the early Protestant community that took root in this neighborhood. Visitors can sense how the congregation remains connected to the local identity of the area.
The church offers free admission and sits just a five-minute walk from Yodoyabashi Station. The station is served by two railway lines, making it easy to reach from different parts of the city.
The building preserves its early Showa-era architecture and feels like a window into the past amid modern office towers in the Kitahama district. Its historic facade stands in sharp contrast to the contemporary skyline around it.
