Mount Murone, Mountain peak in Ichinoseki, Japan
Mount Murone rises 894.7 meters above sea level in Iwate Prefecture, forming part of the expansive Kitakami Mountains range in northeastern Japan.
The mountain gained recognition as a sacred site during the development of the Murone Shrine, which established religious practices in the Iwate region.
The summit features the Kirara Astronomical Observatory, equipped with a 50-centimeter reflector telescope for scientific observation and educational programs.
Visitors can access multiple hiking trails from Ichinoseki city, with the Murone Kogen Prefectural Natural Park providing maintained paths and rest facilities.
During June, the mountain summit transforms as tens of thousands of red azalea flowers cover the slopes, creating a natural display visible from miles away.
