Miracle Pine Tree, Memorial pine tree in Rikuzentakata, Japan
Located in Takatamatsubara Memorial Park, this 27.5-meter-tall pine tree stands as the sole survivor among 70,000 trees after the 2011 tsunami.
The original tree, dating from 1839, endured the devastating tsunami but succumbed to seawater damage in 2012, leading to its preservation as a monument.
The tree received the name Kiseki no Ippon Matsu from local residents who witnessed its resilience during the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Visitors can reach the memorial by taking a 30-minute bus ride from Kesennuma Station or accessing the dedicated parking facilities at Takatamatsubara.
The preserved tree structure includes the original trunk carefully treated and mounted on a metal skeleton, maintaining its exact position and appearance.
