宇和海展望タワー

The Uwakai Observation Tower was a 110-meter structure in Ainan with a donut-shaped viewing platform measuring about 7 meters across. From this platform, visitors could see Misho Bay, the Uwakai Sea, and the coastal formations that surrounded them.

The tower was built in 1977 and served as a major attraction in Nanyo Recreational City Park for many years. It closed in 2019 when it no longer met current earthquake safety standards.

The tower drew visitors who wanted to observe the fishing communities and coastal villages scattered across the bay below. Many came to understand how the sea shaped daily life in this maritime region.

Access to the platform was by elevator, and the space could hold up to 65 visitors at one time. Before visiting, check current access and opening information, as the tower is no longer in regular operation.

The elevator itself was a special feature, as it rotated while lifting visitors upward. This spinning motion created a memorable experience of the coastal landscape as people ascended to the viewing platform.
