Sukumo Castle

Sukumo Castle is a Japanese fortification located in Sukumo city in Kochi Prefecture, perched on a hilltop overlooking the surrounding landscape. The grounds contain stone walls, watchtowers, and scattered ruins spread across the elevated terrain.

The castle was built during the Edo period as a lord's residence and functioned to control the region. It was abandoned after the collapse of the shogunate and remains in ruins today.

The castle represents traditional Japanese military architecture with wooden structures, stone foundations, and multiple defensive perimeters surrounding the central keep.

The site is best explored on foot, as access involves climbing stairs and walking natural paths across the grounds. Comfortable footwear is recommended, particularly if you plan to reach the higher sections of the ruins.

The fortress utilized the local topography for defense, with its position providing strategic oversight of the surrounding territories and maritime approaches.
