Hiruiōzuka Kofun, Ancient burial mound in Ogaki City, Japan.

Hiruiōzuka Kofun is a keyhole-shaped burial mound stretching over 150 meters with a height of about 13 meters. The structure features three distinct levels and a surrounding moat that defines its boundaries.

This burial site dates to the late 4th century and held three separate grave chambers within a single pit for regional leaders. Its construction reflects how burial practices evolved during that period.

This place held meaning as a burial ground where community leaders received special treatment through carefully arranged objects and structures. The way it was designed reflects how people of that time thought about honoring their dead and preparing them for what came after.

The site is about a 25-minute walk from JR Minami-Akasaka Station or accessible by bus from JR Ogaki Station. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since you can walk around the entire mound to view all sides of the structure.

Excavations uncovered painted clay figures, curved jewels, glass beads, and pottery that reveal burial practices of the time. These discoveries show the range of objects communities prepared for their leaders.
