Senohachi, Mountain pass in Aki-ku and Higashihiroshima, Japan
Senohachi is a mountain pass at approximately 347 meters (1,140 feet) elevation that connects Aki-ku and Higashihiroshima through forested terrain. Multiple marked trails lead through the woodland to different viewpoints and rest areas.
The pass served as an important route connecting communities across Hiroshima prefecture, allowing people and goods to cross the mountains for many years. Over time, it became known as a hiking destination while maintaining its role as a natural corridor.
The pass draws hikers from nearby areas who come to experience the forest and observe how the landscape changes with the seasons.
The trails offer varying difficulty levels suitable for different fitness levels, with parking areas at the base for easy access. Bring weather protection since conditions can change quickly at higher elevations.
On clear days, visitors can see both the Seto Inland Sea and the Chugoku Mountains from the pass, showing how the region transitions between coast and high elevation. This view reveals the diverse geography compressed into a small distance.
