Muryoko-ji, Buddhist temple in Akashi, Japan
The temple complex features traditional Japanese architecture with buildings laid across the mountainside, incorporating both indoor and outdoor spaces for worship and meditation.
The temple dates back to the Heian period between 794 and 1185, when it was established as a center for Buddhist practices and spiritual development.
Morning ceremonies at Muryoko-ji include traditional fire rituals where monks perform sacred chants and burn wooden tablets inscribed with prayers.
The temple provides accommodation in 30 Japanese-style rooms with shared bathrooms, and serves vegetarian meals for both dinner and breakfast.
Guests participate in daily morning ceremonies where monks perform the Gomataki fire ritual, burning offerings while reciting ancient Buddhist prayers.
