神明小網橋, Suspension bridge in Matsue, Japan
Shimmei Koami Bridge is a suspension bridge in Matsue that spans across Lake Nakaumi, connecting two prefectures and their communities. It replaced an older crossing that had limited capacity and served as a major improvement to regional transportation.
Planning for this bridge began in the 1990s to create a direct connection across the lake that had previously limited vehicle flow. The project addressed long-standing transportation challenges between the two prefectures.
The bridge received international attention through social media platforms due to its steep appearance when photographed with specific camera techniques.
You can cross by foot or by vehicle, with parking available at both ends of the bridge. The best time to visit is during clear weather when views across the lake are unobstructed.
The structure maintains a gradient of 6.1 percent on the Shimane side and 5.1 percent on the Tottori side, making it the largest rigid-frame bridge in Japan.
