篠座神社, Shinto shrine in Japan

Shinoza Shrine is a small sanctuary in Ono city situated in a quiet area with natural water springs. The shrine features a simple main hall, an adjacent pond called Benten Pond, and a water collection point where visitors can gather clear spring water.

The shrine was established around 717 when the monk Taisho stopped here during a pilgrimage to Mount Hakusan and built a small chapel. Upon returning from the mountain, he received divine guidance that led to the founding of this sanctuary.

The shrine is dedicated to Okuninushi, a deity credited with providing healing water for eye ailments according to local legend. Visitors can gather the sacred water and participate in traditional worship through bowing and hand clapping.

The shrine is easily reached by public transport, approximately 15 minutes walking from Ono Station, with bus connections and nearby parking available. The best time to visit is during spring and autumn festivals when traditional ceremonies and local events take place.

The shrine is positioned so that the setting sun disappears behind the nearby Mount Iiburi during the spring and autumn equinoxes, making it a place of astronomical significance. This rare alignment connects human-built structures with the natural rhythms of the year.
