Zushi Beach, Sandy beach at Miura Peninsula, Japan
Zushi Beach is a sandy shore on the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture, running for about one kilometer along the coast. The central part is reserved for swimmers, while the southern end is used for water sports and other beach activities.
The beach has been a popular destination for decades, drawing visitors from the surrounding region throughout the year. In more recent times, local authorities introduced strict rules banning tattoos, outside drinks, and sound systems to manage the crowds.
A film festival takes place here in late spring, turning the waterfront into an open-air cinema under the sky. Locals and visitors gather together along the shore to watch films in a relaxed seaside setting.
The beach is roughly a 15-minute walk from JR Zushi Station, passing through the Zushi Ginza shopping street on the way down to the water. Shower and changing facilities are available directly on the beach for all visitors.
On clear days, Mount Fuji is visible on the horizon from the waterline, which many visitors do not expect at a beach. Volcanic rock formations frame both ends of the bay, giving the shoreline a look quite different from typical sandy beaches.
