Mikaeri Falls, Natural cascade in Karatsu, Japan
The Mikaeri Falls descends 100 meters through vertical rock formations, creating a powerful cascade that stands as the highest waterfall in the Kyushu region.
The waterfall earned its place among Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls list through a national selection process that evaluated natural water features across the country.
Local residents from Ouchi town planted numerous hydrangea bushes along the paths to the waterfall, creating a traditional Japanese garden experience during summer months.
Visitors can access the falls via two parking areas: one requires a 25-minute forest walk, while another offers closer proximity to the waterfall observation point.
The waterfall receives evening illumination, transforming the cascading water into a luminous display against the dark rock face throughout the night hours.
