那売佐神社, Shinto shrine in Japan
Narusasa Shrine is a Shinto shrine in Izumo dedicated to the deity Ashihara Shikuo no Mikoto and Suseri Hime no Mikoto. The building features a wooden structure with a tiled roof, stone pathways, a purification basin, and a simple main hall surrounded by trees.
The shrine appears in early historical records like the Izumo Fudoki and was expanded during the Edo period to become a regional worship center. It was elevated to the status of a district shrine in the early 20th century.
Local people visit regularly to offer prayers and express gratitude, making this place a center of community worship for generations. The simple layout with gates, stone paths, and altar spaces reflects how faith has been practiced here over centuries.
The shrine is about 20 minutes walk from the nearest station and has no parking lot, so arriving by car requires advance planning. Access involves climbing a long staircase of about 200 steps, so wear comfortable shoes and allow time for the walk.
Near the shrine is Iwatsubo, a legendary site with smooth rocks and flowing water where mythology says the deity bathed in ancient times. The area is also known for fireflies that glow in the darkness around mid-June, creating a special natural display.
