Naha Airport Expressway, road in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan
The Naha Airport Expressway is a tollway in Okinawa Prefecture that stretches about 12 kilometers and connects the eastern island area near Nishihara to the southern city of Tomigusuku. The road features wide lanes, smooth pavement, and signage in both Japanese and English to help drivers navigate easily.
This expressway first opened in 2000, initially running from the junction with the Okinawa Expressway to Haebaru-minami. It has since been extended twice, in 2003 and 2008, and now reaches the Tomigusuku interchange to serve travelers heading to the airport and southern parts of the island.
Drivers must enter at green gates and obtain a yellow ticket from a ticket machine, which they present at exit booths to pay tolls. Japanese yen cash or certain credit cards are accepted, and it is important not to fold or tear the ticket to avoid additional charges.
The name Naha Kūkō Jidōsha-dō literally translates to Airport Auto Road, with the term Kūkō specifically meaning airport in Japanese. The route is partially operated by a private company called West Nippon Expressway Company, while the remainder is managed by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
