鈿女神社

鈿女神社, Shinto shrine in Japan

鈿女神社 is a small Shinto shrine in Matsukawa featuring a traditional nagare-zukuri roof that extends over the entrance. The grounds include simple wooden structures, stone pathways, a sacred tree, stone lanterns, and a water basin for purification.

The shrine was built in 1931 using traditional construction methods and has been carefully maintained over nearly a century. A nearby bridge constructed in 1933 connects the shrine to the broader community and reflects its role in local history.

The shrine honors the goddess 天鈿女命, associated with crafts and music in local belief. Visitors come to connect with their community's traditions and to participate in seasonal celebrations that reflect the rhythms of daily life.

The shrine sits near National Route 147 and is easily accessible on foot from central Matsukawa. Visitors should approach respectfully by bowing before the main hall and following simple customs when making offerings or leaving wishes on wooden plaques.

Local volunteers maintain the shrine grounds and keep the tradition alive for future generations. This community care is evident in the well-kept surroundings and carefully preserved details like engraved stones and paper decorations that line the pathways.
