Iino Jin'ya, Government office in Futtsu, Japan
Iino Jin'ya is an administrative building from the Edo period in Futtsu with traditional Japanese architecture featuring multiple structures and storage facilities on its grounds. The compound preserves the spatial organization typical of such government centers.
The building was founded in 1648 by Hoshina Masasada and served as a regional administrative center under the Tokugawa shogunate. It played an important role in managing and controlling local territories across several generations.
The building shows how local officials organized their administrative duties during the Edo period and how territorial control was expressed through spatial arrangement. You can still see today how different areas were used for separate functions.
The site is located in Chiba Prefecture and is accessible by local transportation from nearby cities. Visitors should allow time to explore the various buildings and spaces of the compound thoroughly.
It ranks among the three most notable jin'ya in Japan and was responsible for administering large territories. Few administrative buildings from this era remain in their original form today.
