Mother Farm, Theme park and ranch in Futtsu, Japan.
Mother Farm is a theme park and ranch on the Boso Peninsula that combines farmland, animal enclosures, and amusement rides spread across hillside terrain. The site covers rolling slopes with separate zones for livestock, crop displays, and entertainment areas visitors can walk or ride between.
Hisakichi Maeda established the site in February 1962 to bring urban residents closer to farming life in Chiba Prefecture. The project grew over the decades into a destination that combines education with leisure activities.
Daily demonstrations show sheep shearing and other farming activities, with 19 breeds from around the world kept on site. These presentations let visitors watch animal care and handling techniques up close.
Regular bus services connect the site with Sanukimachi Station and Kimitsu Station, with more frequent departures on weekends. The grounds sit on hillside terrain, so visitors should expect some uphill walking and longer distances between sections.
Two sightseeing buses named Wanwan and Tonton follow different routes through the grounds and animal areas. The names mimic the sounds of barking dogs and grunting pigs in Japanese onomatopoeia.
