The Great Buddha of Takaoka, Buddhist statue at Daibutsu-ji Temple in Takaoka, Japan.

The Takaoka Daibutsu stands 15.85 meters tall, featuring a seated Amida Buddha statue made entirely of copper using traditional metalworking techniques.

The original wooden Buddha statue was built in 1221 by Minamoto Yoshikatsu, with the current copper version completed in 1933 after 26 years of construction.

The statue represents the excellence of Takaoka's copper craftsmanship and holds recognition as one of Japan's Three Great Buddha statues alongside Nara and Kamakura.

Visitors can access the statue's base corridor, which displays 13 Buddhist paintings and houses remnants of the previous Buddha statue destroyed in the 1900 fire.

The Buddha's face exhibits refined features, leading poet Yosano Akiko to declare it more handsome than the Kamakura Daibutsu.
