Shōkō-ji

Shōkō-ji is a temple in Takaoka designated as a National Treasure of Japan that displays traditional Buddhist architecture. The main buildings contain detailed wooden carvings and joinery that have survived intact for hundreds of years.

The temple was founded in 1471 and became an important center for spreading a particular form of Buddhism during medieval times. Its construction and development reflected the religious changes of that era.
