Shinminato Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge in Toyama Prefecture, Japan.
Shinminato Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge that spans across Toyama New Port with two prominent towers and steel cables supporting the structure. The construction features two separate levels designed for different types of traffic.
The project started in 2002 and was completed in phases, with the vehicle section opening first and the pedestrian area following later. The gradual construction approach allowed the port to remain operational during building work.
The bridge received the Tanaka Award from the Japan Society of Civil Engineers in 2013, marking the first bridge in Toyama Prefecture to earn this recognition.
The upper level serves vehicle traffic, while the lower level offers a covered area for pedestrians. Visitors can use either section depending on how they wish to travel.
In the evenings, the towers are lit by around 140 LED lights that glow until 10 PM and cast reflections on the water below. This lighting creates a distinct visual effect once darkness falls.
