Imizu, Coastal city in Toyama Prefecture, Japan.
Imizu is a coastal city in Toyama Prefecture that stretches across the Tonami plains and borders the Sea of Japan to the north. The city consists of several residential areas spread between flat fields and coastal zones.
The foundation took place in November 2005 through the merger of Shinminato, Daimon, Kosugi, Oshima, and Shimo. This consolidation brought several historically independent communities under one shared administration.
Shinminato port is home to the Kaiwomaru, a four-masted training vessel that now welcomes visitors aboard and illustrates seafaring education. The area around the mooring offers exhibits on nautical themes, making the sailing tradition tangible.
The city can be reached via the Ainokaze Toyama Railway line, which offers regular connections to the surrounding area. Drivers use the Hokuriku Expressway or National Route 8, which runs through the city.
Excavation sites such as Kosugimaruyama and Kushidashin preserve traces of early settlement and display finds from thousands of years ago. These archaeological places offer insight into the oldest ways of life in the region.
