Fushiki Manyo Bridge, Road bridge in Takaoka, Japan
The Fushiki Manyo Bridge is a road bridge crossing the Oyabe River mouth and linking the Fushiki and Yoshikyu districts with modern steel construction. It combines girder and arch engineering techniques to support local traffic flow between the two areas.
Construction began in 2003 and finished in 2009, replacing the Nyoi ferry service that had crossed the river since 1951. This new connection marked a major shift in how people traveled between the two districts.
The name came from a community naming campaign where residents submitted hundreds of suggestions, and the chosen name reflects the region's connection to classical Japanese poetry.
The bridge is easy to cross by car and provides direct access to Fushiki Port and surrounding areas. Best views of the structure can be found from the nearby waterfront paths on either side.
Before the bridge, a ferry was the only way to cross, meaning people and vehicles had to wait, especially during rough weather. Now the journey takes just a few minutes, which completely changed how people moved between the districts.
