Takaoka Bridge

Takaoka Bridge is a transportation bridge spanning across Shinminato Port, connecting Imizu and Takaoka with separate lanes for vehicles and pedestrians. The structure allows both forms of traffic to move independently across the waterway.

This bridge was completed in 2012, replacing a former connection that had limited transportation between the two cities. The new structure significantly improved how people and goods could move between Imizu and Takaoka.

The bridge links two cities renowned for their traditional metalwork and casting crafts, which shape the local identity and economy. Walking across, you notice these craft traditions are deeply woven into how the communities view themselves and their connection to each other.

Elevators at both ends provide access to viewing platforms where you can see the port and surrounding mountains. These spots are good places to stop and take in the landscape if you are walking across or visiting the area.

The bridge rises high enough to allow ships to pass underneath, making its clearance from the water level noticeable from certain angles. This design choice is something visitors often overlook when simply driving or walking across it.
