Hoshino Tomihiro Museum of Art・Ashikita

The Hoshino Tomihiro Museum of Art features circular rooms and diverse exhibition spaces displaying watercolor paintings combined with poetic calligraphy.

The museum opened in May 2006 following an international architectural competition that received 1,211 entries from 53 countries in 2002.

The museum exhibits works by Tomihiro Hoshino, who developed his artistic expression through painting and poetry after experiencing physical limitations.

Located two and a half hours north of Tokyo, the museum welcomes visitors daily and maintains a collection of approximately 100 permanent artworks.

The building design incorporates interconnected circular spaces of varying sizes, creating different environments from light to dark, similar to a natural walking experience.
