Ashiribetsu Falls, Cascading waterfall in Takino Suzuran Hillside National Government Park, Japan

Ashiribetsu Falls drops about 26 meters vertically, showing a continuous flow of water cascading against dark rocks within a densely forested national park. The water flows over multiple levels surrounded by steep rock walls on both sides.

The waterfall earned recognition as part of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls list, which helped establish the area's protected status. This designation brought official attention to the natural features of the region.

The name Takino means 'field of waterfalls' in Japanese, reflecting the natural water sources that define this section of Hokkaido's landscape. Visitors today see the same features that inspired the place's name.

Visitors can reach the falls via the Water Ouzel Course, a marked hiking trail through the forest. The area is accessible during winter months, and free snowshoe rentals are available at the park information center.

During winter, the falls maintain partial liquid flow while ice formations create natural sculptures, offering a different visual appearance from other seasons. These contrasts between water and ice make each visit a distinct experience.
