Serita, Residential district in Nagano, Japan
Serita is a residential district in the central-southern part of Nagano. The area contains housing zones, schools, and the Shinshu University Engineering Campus along with the Big Hat arena.
The name originates from Serita-go, documented in medieval texts. The area merged with Nagano City in 1923 and gradually transformed from agricultural land into a modern residential neighborhood.
The establishment of Nagano Station in 1888 transformed this agricultural area into a modern suburban district with educational institutions.
The district is accessible via Nagano Station at its northwestern edge. Getting around is straightforward thanks to local transportation connections and pedestrian access to schools and university facilities.
The area is home to the Big Hat arena, a distinctive sports venue known for its striking roof design. This facility brings events and activity to what would otherwise be a quiet residential area.
