Daiichi Sankyo Kusuri Museum, Pharmaceutical museum in Nihonbashi-Honchō, Japan.
Daiichi Sankyo Kusuri Museum is a pharmaceutical museum with 22 exhibition spaces that trace the path from drug concept to finished medicine. The areas cover different aspects: natural ingredients, chemical production, testing procedures, and how medicines work in the body.
The museum opened in 2012 and documents the history of Daiichi Sankyo, which formed in 2005 from the merger of two older Japanese pharmaceutical makers. Each of these companies had more than 100 years of experience, and they combined their knowledge into one corporation.
The museum shows how Japan's pharmaceutical industry transforms natural remedies into modern medicines and the role this plays in healthcare today. The exhibits reveal how people interact with medications daily and the importance of quality control in drug manufacturing.
The museum is near Mitsukoshimae Station and is open Tuesday through Sunday, but closed on Mondays. It is recommended to book a visit in advance to avoid waiting lines.
Visitors receive an IC chip token that activates personalized content throughout the exhibits and displays a large transparent model showing how medicines travel through the body. This interactive system adapts to each visitor's interests.
