Rokka Forest, Garden and forest complex in Nakasatsunai, Japan.
Rokka Forest is a garden and forest complex spanning roughly 100,000 square meters, displaying native Hokkaido flowers like ezo gentian, hamanasu rose, and katakuri lily in seasonal sections. The site includes walking trails for nature observation and several museum buildings.
The complex was established in 2007 by Obayashi Corporation and later received recognition through the AACA Prize and AIJ Prize for its environmental design. The founding marked the beginning of a project combining European and Japanese design principles.
The site merges European heritage with Japanese garden design through restored Croatian houses that now function as museums, creating a rare cultural blend.
The site sits along the Hokkaido Garden Path connecting Asahikawa, Furano, and Tokachi and offers well-maintained walking trails for different interests. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and plan visits around seasonal blooms or preferred seasons.
The name comes from the six-sided shape of snowflakes, and six signature flowers of the region grow within the gardens. This symbolic tie to regional nature gives the place its distinctive meaning.
