Obihiro Centennial City Museum

The Obihiro Centennial City Museum is a history museum in Midorigaoka Park that documents the development of Obihiro and the Tokachi region. It tells this story through dioramas, photographs, artworks, and archaeological findings from different periods.

The museum opened in 1982 and preserves important artifacts from the Jomon period discovered at the Yachiyo A site. These findings are recognized as Important Cultural Property and reveal the ancient origins of this area.

The museum hosts an Ainu Culture Information Center called Riwka, dedicated to sharing knowledge about Japan's indigenous people and their traditions. Visitors can explore how these practices shaped life in the region.

The museum is located about 25 minutes from Obihiro Station and opens daily. Plan time to walk through the different exhibition sections and take in the displays at a relaxed pace.

The museum has a ceramic art studio where visitors can participate in hands-on activities and learn about local artistic traditions. This offers a rare chance to engage creatively and try traditional craftsmanship techniques.
