Port of Matsuzaki, Maritime port in Matsuzaki, Japan.

The Port of Matsuzaki sits along the southwestern coast of the Izu Peninsula and serves as a central maritime facility with multiple docks and moorings for different vessel types. The facility spreads across a significant area with fishing operations, storage buildings, and modern loading equipment.

During the Edo period, the port played a key role in transporting stones needed for the foundation of Edo Castle in Tokyo. This early trade connected the location to the rapidly growing capital.

The port remains the heart of the local fishing community, where traditional boats arrive daily with catches that supply nearby markets and restaurants throughout the region.

The best time to visit is early morning when fishermen are landing their catches and activity is greatest. The location is easy to walk through and offers good viewpoints overlooking the water and arriving boats.

Several well-preserved merchant houses from the 19th century still stand in the port area, dating to the silk trade era. These buildings display the distinctive Namako wall construction technique, a traditional building method using horizontal joint patterns.
