ベラビスタ境ガ浜
Bella Vista Sakai Gaihama is a hotel perched on a hilltop overlooking the Setouchi Sea and surrounding islands. Most rooms face the water, a restaurant serves wood-fired dishes with local ingredients, and the property includes a distinctive Ribbon Chapel designed to resemble a ribbon in architectural form.
The building was constructed in 1973 as a reception hall for a shipbuilding company and served that purpose for decades. Since 2007 it has operated as a public hotel, and it is currently undergoing renovation until 2027 to reopen as a modern resort.
The hotel sits in an area with deep maritime roots, and guests can experience local food traditions of the Setouchi region. The name comes from Italian and means beautiful view, reflecting how the setting shapes the place's identity.
The property is located near Onomichi and is accessible from major cities in the region. Note that the hotel is currently closed for renovation work planned through 2027.
The Ribbon Chapel on the grounds won design awards for its striking architectural form resembling a ribbon. Though the hotel is currently closed, this chapel remains a recognized example of contemporary Japanese architecture.
