SAPPORO CULTURAL ARTS THEATER, Concert hall and theater in Chuo-ku, Sapporo, Japan
The Sapporo Cultural Arts Theater is a concert hall and theater in the Chuo-ku district, designed by the architectural firm Nikken Sekkei. The hall provides seating for 228 visitors in a modern red brick building.
The building opened in 2018 to expand the range of performance venues in the Hokkaido region. The facility came into being as part of an initiative to promote the performing arts in this area of Japan.
The theater serves as a venue for musical events and stage performances, where city residents regularly experience local orchestras alongside guests from other countries. Visitors see here a mix of modern productions and concert programs that enrich the cultural life of the region.
Access to the building is fully wheelchair friendly, allowing visitors using wheelchairs to reach all areas. Tickets can be purchased online or directly at the on-site box office.
The red brick facade references regional building traditions, while the interior holds cutting-edge equipment for performances. Such elements link the past of the area with contemporary needs of the performing arts.
