Kichijoji Plaza, Movie theater in Musashino City, Japan.
Kichijoji Plaza was a single-screen movie theater in Musashino City, in the western part of greater Tokyo, with digital projection and 216 seats. The venue was located in Kichijoji, a busy neighborhood known for its mix of shops, cafes, and parks.
The building opened in 1956 as Kichijoji Toei Theater, making it one of the oldest cinemas in the area. It closed in January 2024 after more than six decades of operation under different names and owners.
The theater was known for showing independent films and anime, drawing viewers who preferred curated programming over mainstream multiplex offerings. It served as a gathering spot for film lovers in the Kichijoji neighborhood.
The theater was about a seven-minute walk from JR Kichijoji Station and easy to reach on foot. Visitors should note that the venue closed in January 2024 and is no longer operating.
The building had a batting center on its rooftop, so visitors could practice baseball swings directly above the cinema screen. This combination of sports and film in a single building was rare, even by Tokyo standards.
