Kanasugi Bridge, Steel bridge in Minato-ku, Japan.
Kanasugi Bridge is a steel structure that spans the Keihin Canal and connects two sections of the Konan district. At approximately 218 meters long and 24 meters wide, it carries both vehicle and pedestrian traffic across the waterway.
The current structure was completed in 1969 and replaced an earlier bridge at the site. The predecessor bridge had played a role in significant negotiations during the Edo period.
The bridge takes its name from the Kanasugi Daimyojin Shrine, which local fishermen established as a sea-based landmark. This connection to the shrine still shapes how people in the area think of the location today.
The bridge is easily walkable and offers views of the canal and the surrounding harbor landscape. It is best visited during daylight hours to appreciate the structure and the waterways fully.
The name of the bridge is connected to the classical Japanese poetry collection Manyoshu and appears in traditional woodblock prints. These literary and artistic links make it an interesting point in the area's history.
