Acty Shiodome, Residential tower in Shiodome district, Japan
Acty Shiodome is a 56-floor residential tower in Tokyo's Shiodome district, built in a postmodern style using glass and steel. The lower levels contain publicly accessible retail shops and medical clinics, while the upper floors are entirely residential.
The tower was developed by Takenaka Corporation and completed in February 2004, with construction having started in December 2000. It was part of a broader redevelopment of the Shiodome area, which transformed significantly in the early 2000s.
The building has two separate residential sections: more affordable rental apartments in the middle floors and higher-end units above. This split reflects the character of a neighborhood that draws residents from very different walks of life.
The building is close to Hamamatsucho Station, making it easy to reach by public transit. The shops and clinics on the lower floors are open to the public and can be visited without any special arrangement.
The Yurikamome automated transit line runs along the building's west and south sides, while the JR Yokosuka Line passes directly beneath it. Few residential buildings in Tokyo are so closely wrapped by two separate rail systems at once.
