Waters Takeshiba, Waterfront complex in Minato City, Japan
Waters Takeshiba is a combined waterfront facility in the Minato district of Tokyo, housing a 26-floor tower, a luxury hotel, theater halls, and shopping spaces all on the same site. The complex sits directly on the harbor, close to Hamarikyu Gardens, with direct access to the waterfront.
The site was once part of the historic Takeshiba harbor district, which served for decades as a hub for goods and passengers arriving by sea. A redevelopment project transformed the area and relocated the Gekidan Shiki theater to this new waterfront setting.
The JR East Japan Shiki Theater inside the complex stages musicals and theatrical productions that draw audiences from across the city. Spending an evening there gives a sense of how Tokyo mixes waterfront leisure with a strong tradition of performing arts.
The complex is within walking distance of several train stations, including Hamamatsucho, Daimon, and Takeshiba, so arriving without a car is straightforward. For those who drive, a multi-floor parking structure is available directly on the grounds.
Water shuttles depart from Takeshiba Wharf, right next to the complex, and connect directly to Haneda Airport as well as other waterfront stops around the city. This route was originally designed for commuters and remains open to visitors today.
